This Upper East Side apartment kitchen is currently in the kitchen system planning phase, where the entire space is being defined before any construction decisions are made.

The existing footprint remains intact. Rather than expanding or relocating the kitchen, the focus is on reworking what already exists to respond to a shift in how the family lives today. Daily routines, storage needs, appliance priorities, and circulation patterns are being re-evaluated and translated into a new layout strategy within the same spatial constraints.

atelier bauherr is leading the kitchen as a coordinated system. Cabinetry, appliances, workflow, and technical requirements are being developed in relation to the existing utility infrastructure, allowing the design to evolve without triggering unnecessary structural or mechanical changes.

This approach maintains efficiency where it makes sense, while still enabling a meaningful transformation. By redefining the kitchen within its current footprint, the project balances continuity with precision, aligning the space with the family’s present needs while maintaining control over complexity, cost, and execution.
